Just before the midterm elections of 2018, Chris Cuomo told us what Trump was doing to maintain enough support to continue. He was using a common enemy to motivate his supporters.
The common enemy is always changing. It may be "deep state" today if some part of the government has found new illegal activity in one of Trump's businesses or family members. You, the Trump supporter, will cheer his criticisms of your government. This government which has evolved over nearly 250 years and grown increasingly more specialized to deal with increasingly complex problems in an increasingly complex world. Trump is not only removing these specialized abilities that we have developed over time to deal with our problems, but he is removing even the less specialized and more basic, primitive capabilities that we expect to allow us to survive. You cheer his criticisms of deep state, but you drink water with chemicals that were just invented a few years ago and were banned under EPA regulations, but now are permitted again. You may not suffer the consequences of having these new chemicals in your body, but at some point in the future, your offspring will be affected. Our laws, our system of government and all the protections that it has afforded us from people and things that could cause us harm, it is all disintegrating as you cheer. It is popular now to promote voting rights for formerly incarcerated people and Trump will claim them as his loyal followers, which they may accept and be swayed into this implicit adoption of their minds and beliefs from the person who they view as having given them this right. They too will be attacked by him when the time comes for him to defend himself. Our veterans who have protected us in the armed forces have been criticized by Trump for every imaginable detail that Trump can find. We've seen that a soldier can be criticized for having been captured and taken prisoner by a hostile country, as in the case of John McCain, whose family tree had a long and distinguished history of military service. We've seen that even when Trump agrees with something that has happened, he has found that he can still make himself better than that thing and all who were a part of it by saying that it should have happened sooner and faster. So, when you are on the same side as Trump he will tell you that you will never be able to do something as good as he can. You will have to suffer small criticisms when they come and be thankful that they are not larger criticisms. You, the Trump supporter may not realize that you too are afraid of him. You too are afraid of being attacked by him. You may tell yourself that this fear isn't why you support him, but you're not completely sure how true this conviction is. You are allowed to cheer in support of him until you don't look as enthusiastic as you should and then you are demonized. You will cheer louder and wilder than anyone else to avoid being demonized. Do you remember seeing how an attendee at a Trump rally was removed from his seat behind the president? You may want to forget, but it did happen.
You, the Trump supporter know this can happen to you at any moment. Why do you support this? We are all Americans, both Democrats and Republicans. We all want a strong and prosperous nation. We all need to be friends. Don't buy into Trump's hatred. You are not immune to becoming a target of his hatred and it does not benefit you in the long run to continue supporting him. America can't be something that people are coerced into believing in, like at a Trump rally. Let's get back to normal.
Recently, a lawyer in the Department of Justice was nominated to another position by Donald Trump. This nomination was withdrawn when the lawyer removed himself from the case against Roger Stone because Trump's attorney general overruled the sentencing recommendation. The attorney was smart enough to know that the attorney general overruled his sentencing recommendation in order to protect a Trump associate who remained silent instead of testifying against Trump. The original sentencing recommendation was based on Department of Justice guidelines that have been in place for a long time.

Roger Stone is safe until Roger Stone does something that Trump doesn't like and then he will be made to suffer by Trump. Same as you and me. Fail to cheer for Trump and you will be removed. Fail to protect Trump and you will be attacked and Trump will suggest that some people might want to kill you. Someone like Cesar Sayok will obey, as Trump knows.
